Folks, Volkswagen India will launch this month its brand new rival for Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Skoda Kushaq and other compact SUVs in the country. Exciting times, eh? Especially considering we have a handful of other important unveils and launches lined up for this month. Anyway, let us focus on the Taigun; admittedly, Volkswagen has NOT shared a precise Taigun SUV India launch date, but we were able to confirm late last month that the upcoming SUV in India will become available for retail in August 2021. We expect VW India to share details soon. In addition to that, we expect Volkswagen Taigun bookings in India will also start rather soon — either sometime within the next few days or perhaps along with the car’s launch. We will let you know once we know more.
Volkswagen Taigun, which was first showcased at Auto Expo 2020 as a concept, is loaded to the gills, both inside and outside. Its list of exterior provisions includes LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED tail lights, etc. The cabin comes equipped with an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, wireless charging, a fully digital instrument console, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, and connected car technology among other things.
VW Taigun’s engine options will include a choice between two engine options: a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.0-litre motor delivers 113 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque and will be available with the options of a six-speed manual gearbox and an automatic transmission. Whereas the 1.5-litre engine belts out 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. This petrol unit’s transmission options will include a six-speed manual gearbox and a DSG automatic transmission.
