Uttarakhand Congress MLA Rajkumar is likely to join the BJP today in Delhi.
He was with the saffron party from 2007 to 2012. However, after the BJP did not give him a ticket in the 2012 and 2017 polls, he joined Congress.
Assembly polls are scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand next year.
The BJP is facing anti-incumbency in the state and has had three chief ministers since it came to power in 2017.
The state BJP is expected to field fresh candidates in many assembly segments. Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami is the youngest in his cabinet.
The BJP has entrusted MP Locket Chatterjee and party spokesperson R.P. Singh with the task of assisting Pralhad Joshi in Uttarakhand.
Joshi will need to ensure that the party stays united and those who are denied tickets are kept in good humour. The AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) has made an entry into the state and is building its base.
