Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani had earlier this year said that ‘JioPhone Next’ — being jointly developed by Jio and Google — would be available from September 10.
JioPhone Next’ which was slated to launch on September 10, 2021, will now be rolled out ahead of Diwali. The much-awaited affordable smartphone is in advanced trials and is expected to be in the market in the upcoming festive season, according to a statement by Jio.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, had previously stated that the ‘JioPhone Next,’ which is being jointly developed by Jio and Google, will be available starting September 10.
“Both businesses have begun testing JioPhone Next with a small group of consumers for further refinement and are actively working to make it available more widely in time for the Diwali festival season,” Jio stated in a statement.
The statement added that the additional time will give it time to deal with industry-wide supply issues pertaining to global semiconductor shortages.

This extra time will also aid in “mitigating the present industry-wide, global semiconductor shortages,” according to the statement. Jio and Google announced that they had made “significant progress” toward the introduction of the much-anticipated JioPhone Next, a made-for-India smartphone co-designed by the two businesses. “JioPhone Next is the first-of-its-kind handset with an optimised Android and Play Store operating system,” it stated.
The company claims that JioPhone Next device and operating systems are expected to pack features associated with phones in the premium category such as voice-first features, great camera experience among others. It will enable users to consume content and navigate the phone in their own language, a great camera experience, and access to the most recent Android feature and security updates.
“JioPhone Next is built with exciting features like the Google Assistant, automatic read-aloud and language translation for any on-screen text, a smart camera with India-centric filters, and much more,” it added.
The affordable phone was announced with the intention to allow 2G feature phone users an option to upgrade to a 4G-enabled device that runs an optimised version of Android.
