The operation started on Monday evening. The security agencies came under heavy fire when they circled the area where the terrorists were hiding.
Shopian: Three terrorists of proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar e Taiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter in the Shopian district of South Kashmir in the early hours of Tuesday. One of the terrorists has been identified as Mukhtar Shah of Ganderbal. He was linked to the killing of a street hawker Virender Paswan in Srinagar.
“Three terrorists of LeT (The Resistance Front – TRF) killed. Identification being ascertained. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition recovered. Search going on (sic),” Jammu and Kashmir Police said.
The security forces had launched a combing operation to look for terrorists hiding in the Tulran Imamsahab area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. The team came under heavy fire as they zeroed in on the spot.
“One terrorist has identified as Mukhtar Shah of Ganderbal. He had shifted to Shopian after killing one street hawker Virendra Paswan of Bihar,” the police said. The police further added that incriminating arms and ammunition were recovered from the three terrorists.
Terrorists kill JCO, jawans in Rajouri
A fresh gunfight had started in the area hours after terrorists killed a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four soldiers of the Indian Army in the Rajouri sector in Pir Panjal, J&K. The Valley has witnessed an increased influx in terror activities.
The security agencies, in a series of raids, have detained hundreds of overground workers of terror outfits across the Valley. The operation was undertaken after terrorists killed seven civilians last week.
Two teachers – a Sikh and a Hindu – were killed by terrorists on Thursday, barely within two days of killing a pharmacy owner in Srinagar. Paswan, a paani puri vendor was fired at by terrorists in Madina Chowk, Lalbazar, Srinagar.
