The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA T Raja Singh has urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to make Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist PV Sindhu the brand ambassador of Telangana instead of tennis ace Sania Mirza.
In a short video, Singh said that Sindhu was the first woman to win two Olympic medals and brought recognition to India and Telangana by winning the bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics.
This is not the first time the Goshamahal MLA has sparked a row with his controversial statements.
After the Pulwama terrorist attack in 2019, Singh had said that Mirza should be removed as the brand ambassador of Telangana.
He had also called Mirza “Pakistan’s daughter-in-law.” in 2019
Meanwhile, Sindhu received a grand welcome in Vijayawada by the Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday.
The ace shuttler on Sunday became the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals after defeating China’s He Bing Jiao in the bronze medal match.
