ays after her nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy was attacked by alleged BJP supporters in Tripura, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee pointed the finger at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly staging the attack.
“The BJP is running an anarchic government in Tripura, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and wherever they are in power. We condemn the attacks on Abhishek and our party activists in Tripura,” Mamata Banerjee said after meeting injured TMC cadres at state-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata.
“Sudip and Jaya are students who went to Tripura, they were attacked and their heads were bashed in. Astonishing that everything happened in front of police and no medical attention was provided. Then they were arrested. Not a glass of water was given,” she said.
Terming the BJP a “monstrous party”, Mamata Banerjee asserted that she won’t be intimidated by these attacks. She also alleged that TMC workers were being targeted in broad daylight in states where the saffron party is in power, but no action is taken by the police and administration.
“Such attacks would not have been possible without the Union home minister’s active support. He is behind these attacks which were carried out in front of Tripura Police as it remained mute spectators. The Tripura chief minister doesn’t have the audacity to order such attacks,” the West Bengal chief minister added.
Mamata Banerjee’s startling allegations levelled against Amit Shah come in the wake of TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy being attacked with sticks and lathis by alleged BJP workers in Agartala. Abhishek Banerjee was visiting the Tripura capital to meet with TMC state leaders and prepare to expand the party’s footprint ahead of 2023 assembly elections in the state.
