Lakhimpur Kheri violence LIVE updates: The funeral of three out of four farm protesters, who had died during violent clashes in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district, was performed on Tuesday.
The post-mortem of the fourth farmer was done for the second time and his funeral is expected to take place today (Wednesday). A total of eight people, including four farmers, had died in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday in the bloodiest clash since the farmers’ protest over the Centre’s agri laws began last year. Union minister Ajay Misra’s son Ashish Misra was named in the FIR filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. The FIR states that Ashish alias Monu was sitting in the car that mowed down protesting farmers. Meanwhile, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has demanded the arrest of Ashish Mishra over the incident. Meanwhile, some top leaders including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were detained by police when they staged protests or attempted to visit the violence-hit district. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was arrested on Monday for defying prohibitory orders to visit Lakhimpur Kheri, released a statement on her detention, calling her confinement “illegal”.
