Former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar recently met Rahul Gandhi, which has now sparked rumours of him joining the Congress party.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Many people meet Rahul Gandhi and discuss issues. I don’t want to comment on this issue. If there’s anything we will surely announce it.”
However, sources say Kanhaiya Kumar is likely to join Congress after an announcement is made on the new Bihar Pradesh Congress chief.
Congress party sources have also said that Kanhaiya Kumar was offered to join the party during the Bihar elections in 2025. Sources have also said that the party has a plan in place for him in Congress.
Kanhaiya Kumar, a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI), is known for his rousing speeches, especially the ones during his JNU days. He took the political plunge and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Begusarai seat and was fielded against BJP leader Giriraj Singh.
Kanhaiya Kumar lost out to Giriraj Singh in the elections and is now seeking to join the Congress party ahead of the next Bihar assembly elections.
The Congress, on the other hand, had performed poorly in the assembly elections tightly fought between the alliances led by RJD and JDU. The Congress could win only 19 of the 70 seats it contested while RJD won more than half of the 144 seats it contested.
