As per the police, the terrorist in Srinagar was killed during the gunfight which began yesterday. An AK-47 and live ammunition was recovered from the deceased.
While speaking to media, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed that the terrorist killed in the Srinagar encounter has been identified as Aamir Riyaz of Khrew, Pulwama. He was affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Mujahideen Gazwatul Hind, he added.
Kumar went on to say that Riyaz was a relative of the accused of the Lethpora terror attack and was assigned to carry out the fidayeen attack.
The gunfight between terrorists and security forces took place after a joint team of the police and the army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about presence of terrorists.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire and retaliated, triggering the encounter.
