Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed anguish over TMC MP Derek O’ Brien’s ‘making papri chaat’ remark, calling it an insult to the people who elected MPs, Union minister Pralhad Joshi said.
PM Modi, along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party national president JP Nadda and other BJP leaders, attended the BJP Parliamentary party meeting ahead of the start of the day’s session on Tuesday.
Union minister Pralhad Joshi, who was at the meeting, said PM Modi called Derek O’ Brien’s remark “insulting comment”.
“Yesterday, a tweet was posted by TMC (MP Derek O’Brien). PM Modi said it is an insult to people who elected MPs. PM Modi has expressed anguish,” Pralhad Joshi said.
“‘Making papri chaat’ was an insulting comment. Tearing of papers, throwing them, and not apologizing is arrogance is what PM Modi said,” he added.
On Monday, Derek O’ Brien hit out at the Centre for rushing to pass Bills in the Parliament. “In the first 10 days, Modi-Shah rushed through and passed 12 Bills at an average time of UNDER SEVEN MINUTES per Bill. Passing legislation or making papri chaat!” Derek O’Brien tweeted along with a chart of the bills passed.
Parliament being insulted by acts of Opposition: Muraleedharan
At the BJP’s Parliamentary party meet, Union Minister V Muraleedharan said, “Parliament is being insulted by the acts of the Opposition in both the Houses. The person who snatched the paper and tore it is not repentant of his acts. Comments made by a senior MP regarding the passage of Bills is derogatory,” ANI quoted him as saying.
“PM Modi also mentioned that we will leave no stone unturned to fulfill the commitment to the people. PM Modi spoke about e-Rupi. It’ll have a targeted and purpose-specific benefit for people. Many schemes are sometimes used for some other purpose but e-Rupi will resolve it,” V Muraleedharan added.
PM Modi also shared happy news that came in the month of July, V Muraleedharan said. “We had Rs 1.16 lakh cr GST collection. News from Tokyo Olympics, whether the bronze medal won by PV Sindhu or achievements of hockey teams, have come in July,” he said.
