Several states, including Kerala, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and others are currently receiving unprecedented rainfall across India. Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh may receive snowfall.

Thiruvananthapuram/Dehradun/Bengaluru: Several states, including Kerala and Uttarakhand, have received incessant rainfall for the last few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected intense spells of downpour over east and northeast till Wednesday, and south peninsular region during the next four-five days.
Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have also been receiving heavy rains.
Kerala rainfall update
Kerala braces for another spell of intense rainfall from Wednesday. The weather department has issued an Orange alert for 11 districts in Kerala. The IMD has also put 12 districts in the state on Orange alert on October 21 also. An Orange alert indicates very heavy rains from 6 cm to 20 cm of rains.
An orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts on Wednesday.
Kerala received extremely heavy falls leading to landslides in the south-central districts on October 15 and 16 which led to the death of 24 people. The death toll is likely to increase as search and rescue operations are still underway.
Amid continuous rainfall, the dams in Kerala are full. Idukki, Idamalayar, Pamba and Kakki, four major dams among the total 78 dams in the state have been opened to release the excess water.
“During October-December, through the north-east Monsoon, the state receives an average rainfall of 491.6 mm, which is 16.8 percent of the annual rainfall. This year, the state has received 453.5 mm rain during Oct 1-19, instead of the usual 192.7 mm. This means that the state has already received over 90 per cent of this season’s rainfall,” a senior IMD official told PTI.
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry weather update
The IMD has predicted isolated and very heavy rainfall very likely over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on October 20 and October 21.
West Bengal, Bihar, Assam rains update
The weather department informed that a low pressure Area lies over Bihar and neighbourhood due to which wide spread light to moderate rainfall with heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning expected at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar today. The IMD also said that rainfall is also expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya today. Moderate to severe thunderstorms accompanied with lightning very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand and Sikkim during the next 24 hours.
Karnataka rainfall update
The IMD bulletin stated that a fresh spell of the easterly wave is likely to affect south Peninsular India and cause fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over coastal Karnataka during October 21-23 and south interior Karnataka during October 20-23.
Snowfall likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh
A fresh Western Disturbance is very likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from October 22 and cause scattered to fairly widespread rain/snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on Friday and isolated heavy rainfall on October 23. Isolated to
scattered rain/snow predicted for Himachal Pradesh from October 22-23.
